Shockingly, this means that over 2,500 people are seriously injured or harmed each year, due to inappropriate speeding. In the wake of the pandemic, driver safety has been on the decline, with research indicating that one out of every four fatal collisions on UK roads is a result of speeding. As other police forces could soon be rolling out undercover speed camera vans, experts at Road Angel hope this will further encourage drivers to be mindful of their speed and the danger it poses to themselves and all other road users. The idea behind the unmarked speed camera vans is to promote consistently safe driving, as opposed to the on-off pattern that can result from drivers only slowing down for marked vans.

Police in Northamptonshire are currently testing so-called 'stealth vans', which could potentially be deployed to other areas of the UK if the trial proves successful.
